NOTD Ombre Nails - 17 Fairy Cake

Hello sausages, how has your Monday been?
Mine's been up and down I think really; I'm loving life in my new job- my new manager is still a little intimidating after the interview but very sweet because she took me outside today to check that I was OK (I cried in the office on Friday when a woman on the phone was mean, I wasn't even that upset so I don't know where the bloody tears came from...) but on the other hand, my car failed it's MOT and it's going to cost me £500. The same £500 I was going to use next week to book flights to South Korea to visit my friend.
Swings and roundabouts, eh?

So, here is my first attempt at the ombre nail trend. Be gentle with me because I know it's a little rough but it's the best that I could manage!
I used 17's Fairy Cake as a light pink base and then my beloved M&S Limited Collection Pink as the darker shade. I couldn't decide whether to go light-dark or dark-light but after further council with the village committee it was decided...dark- light could look like chipped nails from a distance so light-dark it was!

I'm quite pleased with them, although at work there was some combination of office lighting and the pinks together that made them look glowing neon!

I imagine that most people know how I did this but if you don't then here is a condensed version:

  • I painted one coat of Fairy Cake on to my nails and waited for it to dry.
  • I ripped a chunk of sponge that I bought in the supermarket, I don't know if it's important but I made sure it was quite a messy rip so I would avoid any distinct lines.
  • I painted some LC Pink onto the sponge (not too much) and started dabbing at the bottom until about half way so there was less painted.
  • Then I painted Fairy Cake on to the same piece of sponge and started nearer the top to blend in with the middle so there was a medium shade.
  • I then just repeated with the different colours until I felt they looked right.
  • It's not a very smooth process so then I went to sleep and put one coat of topcoat on in the morning at voila...OMBRE NAILS!

This is actually my favourite song of all time.

Topshop wishlist

Pictures courtesy of Topshop.com

I've always had a lot of love for Topshop but I do go through phases where there isn't really anything that I fancy and then phases where I could spend enough to make Mohamed Al Fayed blush.
I'm going through the latter at the moment and the picture above shows the items at the top of my wishlist (I didn't realise I'd fallen for the stud trend so badly...or pink)

Is Topshop appealing to anyone else as much as it is to me right now?

Nails inc. Curtain Street/Road- designer matte finish

Good morning :) It looks like we'll be having great weather this weekend, yay!

I bought this lovely little nail polish from the Nails inc. website for £5 thinking it it looked like a nice shade of pale pink and I'd not seen the matte effect before. On the Website it's called Curtain Road, when it arrived though it was called Curtain Street, so who knows!

OK, looking at my photo it looks just the same as the website, perhaps I had just imagined it to be the colour I was hoping...

It looks a lot pinker in real life than on the website so I was a little disappointed but actually I really like the shade now and think its the perfect match to a matte polish as it's a very powdery, girly sort of look.

Apologies for the state of my shoddy index finger

More 'satin' finish than true matte

The polish itself is a bit of a nightmare to apply, it's quite thin and runny and the 1st coat is a wonderful streaky one. The 2nd coat improves things but it's still not quite right, so it takes 3 coats of this bad boy to get it looking opaque and streak free. One thing working in its favour is that it is the fastest drying polish I've probably ever come across, I don't just mean touch dry either. You can press on this after a a minute or so and it leaves no mark, even after 3 coats it is still a quicker dryer which at least makes up for the fact that 4 coats could be needed.
Another thing to mention is that this chips SO easily and hasn't even lasted 24 hours on me. I really like the look but I think I'll just use this now and then as a novelty and definitely not everyday!

Right, I'm off now; my friend and I joined the gym yesterday and we're going to attempt another 50 lengths of the pool and then we're going to watch Beauty and the Beast 3D at the cinema!  I am so excited about this, gutted it's only in 3D because I really don't like wearing those glasses which make no difference at all but it's in my top 3 favourite Disney films ever. I LOVE IT.
I'll be back tomorrow with a very looonnnnggggg post.

I'll finish this post with a quick feel good song for the weekend!
